So, it will take some time. Probably I will wind it by myself.

Hi Iztok,

a further hint regarding the power transformer.
In your PSU part drawing both hot ends of the transformer are denoted by a value of 750 Volts.
I guess, the total voltage between the hot ends is 750V
and each voltage on the hot end in respect to the coil tap is 375 Volts.

yes, 750VAC between taps and half (375VAC) from each tap to CT (center tap).
Note: my mains voltage at that time was 216VAC!
At higher mains voltage (230-240VAC) you should see higher AC on the other side of transformer.
Because heater voltage is already over 6.3VAC (6.42VAC on my schematic), further increase would not be welcome.

thanks for your hint.
At the development periode of the early Kittys the main voltage has been 220 Volts in Germany.
I suppose the power transformer has been not well calculated.

I think Roy didn't take care how we will manage mains voltage many years after
I had a Counterpoint on my bench... I could read heaters voltage of no less than 7.1VAC (at mains voltage today=235VAC).

i think the roys did not take care of a lot of things. IMHO they did not understand a lot of things....

I met one of them personally on the Frankfurt Musikmesse and asked him about the "correct" way to hook up speakers to my counterpoint supreme....

Question: "I have three outputs 2 of them labelled 4 ohm, 4 ohm and one labelled 8 ohm. What's about the two 4 ohm Speaker outs? Can I use two 8 ohm speakers there"
Answer: "NO - The two 4 ohm speaker outs are intended for the use with two 4 Ohm Speaker cabinets"....

Sorry - but this answer was simply - WRONG.... It's copied from MESAs - use for a combined 4 ohm load... Either one 4 ohm or two 8 ohms in parallel...

Otherwise something to mention: my Kitty had a scorchmark at one tube socket from minute one onwards, a clear indication, that it had been used with a too high speaker impedance, or no load at all. From the factory

To be honest: My respect for the original KittyHawks is very low. My counterpoint IS a nice amp; but IMHO this was simply by accident and not because of the technical knowledge of its makers....

The pics on in your gallery - thank you for these - speak the same language.... I simply don't understand, why the standards are compared to dumbles.

Hi Jochen,

I did repair/restore 5 Kitty Hawks so far.
2 of them sounded great without tweaking, the rest were somehow modded to get best out of them.
I can't judge Roy, I don't know the whole story, but - every amp is a bit different (same model), would be nice if schematics are followed.
Looks like all of them were a bit "custom" made, especially preamps.
Amps from my bench are all pretty old, 80'-85', so are early models.
Indeed, labelling outputs that way is strange:-), very confusing for the user.

In general, I may agree with you regarding respect, but you can find great sounding KH if you can choose.
Those should be early models, from my experience.
