Hi, So curiosity got the better of me, and i ordered a set of transfomers from magnetic components. I built a jmp 50watt, and its true that the pt can get quite warm, but i don't think there is anything to worry about. I also decided to go with mallory-150 caps this time, and also done the one wire mod, and a mv. I have made a couple of quick demos for anyone who is interested. The tubes i have used are v1 rft v2 tungsram v3 rft & rft el34s.

I completely disagree, a quite warm (can you still touch it?) PT is a clear sign of weakness.
Maybe wrong calculations, overdriven core, whatsoever: it´s not good.

BTW: what kind of material is the board? pertinax ?

Hi, I already knew that the pt gets warm before i bought the set, i had also read a lot about magnetic components, and have not heard of any pt failings. So since they have been in business from the 50s. i thought i would give them a go. Yes you can still touch it.

The board is from tad.

Hello,

it is absolutly normal that a PT is getting warm when stressed. At full load it should not exceed a temp of 60°C.
But: 60°C is very hot when touching it. So never judge a temp by testing it with your hand.

Hi, I thought i give yous all a update with the amp. So i was quite happy with the amp until the first gig i had, and something did not sound right, so i ended up not using it  It just sounded not open enough, so i changed the mallorys to sozo caps, and i think that was it, now it sounds the way i like it, just have to break the sozos in, and i think all will be good. Hi Joachim, Thanks, i'm very happy with the amp now. I have always used sozos in my other amps, and this time i thought i would try the mallorys to hear the difference, and i think i will be sticking with the sozos in furture. Not that the mallorys sound bad, just the sozos have the right sound i want.

der Grund, dass ich vorzugsweise die englische Sprache nütze ist der, dass ich aus Irland stamme. Ich lebe aber schon seit einiger Zeit in Deutschland, daher gibt es sowohl eine englische als auch eine deutsche Version meiner Website. Aber nach wie vor schreibe ich lieber in meiner Muttersprache, auch wenn ich natürlich auch deutsch schreiben kann. Bitte sei mir nicht böse, wenn ich auch weiterhin Englisch nütze.

Zu den Trafos: Ich finde auch, dass sie sehr solide gebaut sind und ich würde sie jederzeit wieder nützen.

PS: Die Homepage Dukeamps ist eigentlich nur als Hobby von mir gedacht um Leuten zu helfen, die gern einen custom amp hätten oder Hilfe brauchen beim Selbstbauen. In meinem eigentlichen Job bin ich als Musiker unterwegs.

OK, das wusste ich nicht. Andererseits schreibst Du besser Deutsch als viele Deutsche und ich kann es nicht nachvollziehen, warum Du dann lieber Englisch in einem deutschen Forum schreibst. Zumal Dich dann die Deutschen sicher nicht unbedingt besser verstehen.
Aber egal, das geht mich wirklich nix an.

Na ja, man muss halt auch sagen, dass Dirk ja sein engliches Forum geschlossen hat und das hier zum internationalen Forum gemacht. Von daher wird hier eben manchmal auch englisch gesprochen. Das ist ja kein Widerspruch.

Allerdings: Kompliment Duke, an Deinem Deutsch könnte sich so macher Deutscher wirklich eine Scheibe abschneiden

Hi everyone, so here is a little update from the amp. I have now added a 3 way switch mod, 1 plexi norm 2 mid boost 3 modern. Here is a couple of clips from the bright ch, and then the cascade mod ch.
As always just recorded at home.

Hallo Leute, hier ist ein kleines Update vom Amp. Ich habe noch einen 3-Wege-Schalter Mod hinzugefügt, 1 plexi norm 2 mid boost 3 modern. Hier sind ein paar Clips vom Bright Channel und dann vom Cascade Mod Channel.
