The circuit TI uses is pretty similar to runoffgroove's Tonemender, runoffgroove.com put the buffer in front and the gain-stage after the tonestack. So one who feels the urge to actually hear what those colored lines mean could find a perfboard-layout and a PCB for a quick and dirty test environment.
